Brus & Knaster is a Swedish label that closely works together with Playground Music. In English Brus & Knaster means ”White Noise and popping” like the sound you get from vinyl when played. Started by Producer/A&R – Göran Petersson and designer/photographer Johan Månsson, the idea was to create a label that criss-crossed across the genre borders. A Left-of-center label with an eclectic vibe. Americana, Electro, jazz, world, children’s music and even pop could all find a home in the same stall.

Artist: ZILVERSURF (a.k.a João Sueco & Johan Zachrisson) – Myspace
Title: “Howling Dogs & Lost Souls”
Released: Nov 2009

To the young guitarist who started out in Swedish reggae greats Dag Vag in the 70s the prospect of having one of his songs picked up by the legendary Lee Perry most have seemed like a remote chance but when producer Adrian Sherzilverzurf-presswood and Lee Perry did just that in 2008 it’s just another proof of how far and well Johan Zachrissons’s music has travelled over the years. On his sixth solo album ”Howling Dogs & Lost Souls” Zilverzurf returns to instrumental music after some years of co works with vocalists from Sweden, Jamaica, France, England; Papa Dee, Simone Moreno, Desmond Foster, Joseph Beckford, Menad Bouchami, K-Reem, Nadaka & Gopika and Lee Perry. When pressed to describe the music on the new album Johan says that his initial idea was to make chill-out music for grown ups. The ambient setting of the album with the music interspersed with field recordings is indeed proof of this notion but there’s a sense of profoundness here that may well overshadow it’s composer’s initial ambition. ”Howling Dogs & Lost Souls” is pure music, and as such valid for any occasion.

BRUS003Artist: THE WORLD ACCORDING TO BRENT HUNTER VS. NINA RAMSBY
Title: s/t
Released in Scandinavia: Oct 2009

Is it possible to make valid music without meeting in real life. Will the music be at loss when mailed back and forth as zeroes and ones or can we drop that convention right away? Is it possible to make music with presence, music with contact, working at a distance?

Theworld_press1According to The World …According To Brent Hunter vs Nina Ramsby it is most definitely so. It started with a fan mail from Nashville in 2003. Brent Hunter wanted to tell Nina Ramsby how much Baxters first album had meant to him. Nina liked Brent’s Southern language way of expressing himself and replied immediately. They started to exchange mails. After six months or so Brent asked if he could send some of his music to Nina. When she said yes, she was told that she was free to do whatever she wanted with it. Brent sent musik programmed on his RM1X sequencer but also cassettes (!) where he sang and played guitar, sensitive, cautious songs. Nina started to work on the material, cutting them up, adding things of her own, edited and programmed, completing the songs. Sometimes only an embryo of Brent’s idea was left. The acoustic songs were treated with the utmost delicacy, only adding some vocals, a trumpet in the background, a small guitar part to complement, to complete them. When four songs were finished (btw all the music on The World is placed in chronological order as they were created) Nina sent them back to Brent, who really liked what he heard. Nina continued her »ruthlessness project« using the hissing and crackling cassettes from Brent. Not in order to make some sort of lo-fi statement but rather to clearly show the foundation of the project as well as pointing out that the magic of music rarely depends on big budgets and expensive mics and that a low res mp3-file indeed is a valid starting point for a recording project. Half of what to be The World …According To Brent Hunter vs Nina Ramsby was finished in the Autumn of 2005.

Theworld_press2Two years had passed since thir first contact. They had still not met, not even spoken on the phone. Time to meet, Nina flew to the US and landed in Brent’s Nashville suburb. The played and sang in the same room for the first time. In Spring 2006 Brent arrived in Sweden for his first visit and the recordings continued. Since then the two have met once a year and a second album is already in the making.

The World …According To Brent Hunter vs Nina Ramsby are 22 songs, small organic acoustic songs and hard electronica, woven into a journey in and out of different worlds. Lyrics about oppression, about letting go of control, about gay issue struggles, about a God who is like a knife, about mad longing, about paranoia…

Artist: HOUSE OF TOMIDAS – One-Page
Title: “Dark Times”

House of Tomidas play no-holds-barred pop music. Britta Persson’s distinctive vocals an interesting contrast to the rough sway of the band. It seems as if songwriter Peter houseoftomidasHermansson, piano and accordion (earlier with Kristofer Åström’s Hidden Truck), is an eccentric man with mood swings of sorts. Percussionist Niklas Johansson and guitarist Johan Strömgren complete the HoT-combo. Dark Times is the debut of this brilliant outfit, an alternative pop album that encourages the listener to let go of the safety net and is produced by Per Nordmark (Fireside, Breach, Hets, Bad Hands).

Artist: LEIF JORDANSSON – One-Page
Title: “Den Halvt Dolda”

”De halvt dolda” contains music written for the TV series with the same name written by Jonas Gardell and directed by Simon Kaijser Da Silva. The show premiered January 2009 and was an instant success and later won the prestigious TV “Crystallen Award” For Best Drama Film.
